Accreditation Manager

Ms. Le Quellec is Accreditation Manager and oversees the accreditation activities of AFMC for both the undergraduate (CACMS/LCME) accreditation and the accreditation of university-based CME/CPD offices. Previously, Ms. Le Quellec was the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO and Assistant to the Executive Director of AFMC. Other experience includes 10 years as the Assistant to the Executive Director and Managing Editor for the Canadian Mathematical Society. Ms. Le Quellec has a bachelor's degree in psychology. She is fully bilingual.

Government Relations and External Affairs


Mr. Irving Gold

Vice President, Government Relations and External Affairs

Mr. Gold is Vice President of Government Relations and External Affairs at AFMC. He provides health policy, government relations and communication expertise to the association. Prior to joining AFMC, Irving worked in the area of knowledge transfer and exchange. Mr. Gold is a recognized expert in developing and implementing linkage and exchange strategies that bring researchers and decision makers together and build decision-maker capacity to use research-informed evidence. He is currently the Chair of the Canadian Obesity Network, a Network of Centres of Excellence - New Initiative, a Steering Committee member of the Mental Health Commission of Canada's Knowledge Exchange Centre, and is often called upon to participate in or chair scientific review committees for provincial and national funding bodies. Mr. Gold's research experience spans several academic disciplines, and he has recently submitted his PhD dissertation for defence. Mr. Gold holds master's degrees in both criminology and sociology. He has advanced skills in both official languages.

Ms. Russ is the Executive Assistant to Irving Gold, Vice President of Government Relations and External Affairs at AFMC. She provides administrative support for daily operations and contributes to the organization's corporate communications, advocacy and government relations programs. She is also responsible for maintaining the AFMC website. She has extensive experience working in the not-for-profit sector in the fields of corporate communications, special events, media relations as well as fundraising. She is an honors graduate of communications studies from the University of Windsor.

Development Officer for AFMC,
Association Manager for the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME)


Ms. Mutschler's role within the AFMC is twofold. In her capacity as Development Officer for AFMC, Ms. Mutschler assists in the strategic development and execution of revenue generation for the Canadian Conference on Medical Education. As Association Manager for the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), an AFMC partner organization, she manages the day-to-day operations of CAME activities and programs. Prior to joining AFMC, Ms. Mutschler established her career within the not-for-profit medical association sector, with particular emphasis on project management related to sponsorship development, event management and relationship building. She is fully bilingual.



Catherine Peirce

Project Manager, e-Learning

Ms. Peirce, along with a steering committee of clinical educators and medical informatics experts from the 17 Canadian faculties of medicine, has lead the creation of the Canadian Healthcare Education Commons-Collaboration pour l’éducation en santé au Canada (CHEC-CESC). Ms. Peirce continues to manage CHEC-CESC and act as IT support. She also leads the AFMC/Norlien Foundation addictions and e-learning initiative. Ms. Peirce has a management and communication background in the health and education sectors and experience in the development of technology-based, educational resources. She holds an M.A. in Communications.

Dr. Geneviève Moineau

Vice President, Education and Secretary, CACMS/CACME

Dr. Moineau is the Vice-President of Education at AFMC, the Secretary to the Committee for Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools and the Secretary to the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education.

Dr. Moineau is involved in all education dossiers including the Future of Medical Education in Canada projects and the Canadian Conference on Medical Education. Her activities take her from coast to coast, meeting leaders and learners from each of our faculties. Fluently bilingual, Dr. Moineau serves all medical schools with ease.

She previously held the position of associate dean for undergraduate medical education at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine, a position she held for six years. She has previously held the positions of pediatric clerkship director and paediatric emergency medicine program director at the University of Ottawa.

As a graduate of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program, she has had extensive training in leadership. She has had an opportunity to demonstrate her skills as the change agent for the recent curricular reform at the University of Ottawa, as chair of the program committee for the 2010 Canadian Conference in Medical Education, as vice chair and secretary to the AFMC Standing Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education and as a faculty member for the 2010 Canadian Leadership in Medical Education Course.

Her experience in accreditation includes acting as the chair of the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine, Institutional Self Study Task Force and as a chair and secretary for CACMS/LCME survey visits.

Dr. Moineau continues to practise pediatric emergency medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and holds the rank of associate professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Ottawa.

Her scholarly interests include non-cognitive assessment tools for admission to medical school, the use of feedback in medical education and leadership curriculum for medical students.



Chantale Mercier

Executive Assistant to the Vice President, Education and Secretary, CACMS/CACME

Ms. Mercier’s role at AFMC is to provide administrative support to Dr. Geneviève Moineau, Vice President of Education and Secretary to CACME/CACMS. Her dossiers include support to the CCME Scientific Program Committee, Selection Committee and all sub committees as well as overseeing the awards process. She also provides assistance to standing committees, resource groups and special interest groups. Ms. Mercier has worked for a variety of non-for-profit organizations since the beginning of her career. Before working for the AFMC, her last job was with a non-for-profit health accrediting body. Ms. Mercier is fluently bilingual.

Project Manager

Ms. Shore manages two national project initiatives for AFMC in the areas of Indigenous health and public health education. Ms. Shore brings extensive project management experience from both the public and not-for-profit sectors. Prior to AFMC, Ms. Shore managed Community Information Online Consortium, a national not-for-profit software company focused on public information services and volunteerism. She also managed the development of a provincial database for new immigrants to Ontario and front-line settlement workers and was Manager of Access Metro, an integrated online and call centre service to simplify the delivery of city services to the public. Ms. Shore has a B.A. in economics and a degree as a recording engineer.



Melissa Shahin

Project Associate & Web Coordinator (CHEC-CESC.CA)

Ms. Shahin is the Project Associate for AFMC’s national initiative on public health education as well as Web Coordinator for the Canadian Healthcare Education Commons - La collaboration pour l'éducation en santé au Canada. She has also collaborated on AFMC national initiatives for the Accreditation of Interprofessional Health Education project and for Aboriginal health. She brings strong technical and organizational skills to her position. Ms. Shahin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Lethbridge, in Alberta, and has previously worked as a researcher on Canadian and Indigenous issues.

Project Manager

Ms. Moffatt is the Project Manager for The Future of Medical Education in Canada Postgraduate Project. Ms. Moffatt comes to AFMC with a strong academic and professional background in education, training and international development, primarily in postsecondary and nongovernmental organization contexts. She has spent the past 7 years at the University of Toronto at Scarborough as Coordinator of the International Development Studies Co-op Program and has worked in Thailand, Eritrea, Costa Rica and Japan, to name a few. She also has extensive experience in stakeholder relations, program planning and coordination and research analysis. Ms. Moffatt obtained a Master of Education from OISE/UT.

Project Assistant

Ms. de Lucovich is the Project Assistant for The Future of Medical Education in Canada Postgraduate Project. She has previously worked as a conference administrator and as a program assistant. Ms. de Lucovich earned an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto. She obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in International Project Management from the Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning. She also has advanced French language skills.

Conference Manager

Ms. Holloway is Conference Manager of the Canadian Conference on Medical Education for which AFMC is conference secretariat. She has over 10 years experience planning large-scale conferences and events in North America and abroad and has extensive knowledge of the meeting planning industry as both planner and service provider. Ms. Holloway brings with her a sharp eye for detail and a passion for developing successful meetings and events. She developed her conference/event management skills in Montreal and most recently worked for Aramark Canada Ltd. as the Manager of Conference Services at Carleton University.



Karen Norris

Meetings & Conference Assistant

Ms. Norris holds the newly created role of Meetings and Conference Assistant. She is responsible for assisting the Conference Manager in the coordination of the annual Canadian Conference on Medical Education. She is also responsible for the planning and execution of all of AFMC’s off-site meetings. Ms. Norris’ formal education includes a degree in political science and sociology from Queen’s University and a post graduate certificate in event management from Algonquin College. Karen has been a member of Meeting Professionals International since 2009. Karen also brings with her 7 years of program coordination experience from various industry sectors including the federal government, not-for-profit and the private sectors.

Steve Slade

Vice President, Research and Analysis (CAPER-ORIS, AFMC)

Mr. Slade is Vice President of Research and Analysis at AFMC. As part of his work at AFMC, Mr. Slade manages the Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry and the Office of Research and Information Services. He has developed research programs in a variety of settings, including academia, medical organizations and government. Prior to joining AFMC, Mr. Slade worked at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) as Senior Program Consultant, where he led research using large administrative databases. While working at the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), Mr. Slade helped lay the groundwork for Canada's National Physician Survey. Starting out at the University of Toronto's Department of Family and Community Medicine, his roots are in practice-based, family medicine research. Mr. Slade is a psychology graduate from York University and has been a student of computer science and biostatistics at the University of Toronto.

Executive Assistant to the Vice President, Research and Analysis (CAPER/ORIS)

Ms. LeBlanc is Executive Assistant to Steve Slade, Vice President of Research and Analysis. She is responsible for accounting, administrative functions, data management and reporting activities for the Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER). Prior to working at CAPER, Ms. LeBlanc accumulated many years of accounting and administrative experience at various private sector companies and 10 years experience as a Radiological Technologist. Ms. LeBlanc is a certified Radiological Technologist. She also successfully completed accounting courses to augment her office management skills. She is fully bilingual.



Tamara Brown

Project Manager, National IMG Database (CAPER)

Ms. Brown is the Project Manager for the National IMG Database Project. Ms. Brown comes to AFMC with a strong background in public health and primary healthcare research and evaluation. Prior to joining AFMC, Ms. Brown worked at the Conference Board of Canada where she was involved a longitudinal evaluation of Ontario’s Family Health Team Initiative, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Ms. Brown has also conducted research on physician compensation and primary care reform, and has been involved in several youth-based health promotion initiatives, in Canada and overseas. Ms. Brown has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario, and a Master’s degree in public health from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.





Linda Bourgeois

Research Associate (CAPER)

Ms. Linda Bourgeois is Research Associate for the National IMG Database Project. Her responsibilities include data collection, verification, implementation and programming for the National IMG Database. She also creates data tables, charts and graphs for IMG publications as well as for studies, surveys and individual data requests. Ms. Bourgeois brings over 7 years experience from Nortel Networks in a software design role developing professional software tools, including responsibility for the full software development lifecycle. Ms. Bourgeois has in-depth knowledge and experience in customer service, reporting systems and databases, and is certified in business administration, Oracle PL/SQL database programming and Microsoft database design and administration.



Yannick Fortin

Data & Analysis Manager

As Data and Analysis Manager, Mr. Fortin contributes to the planning and implementation of AFMC data initiatives. His work focuses on data holdings within the Office of Research and Information Services (ORIS) and the Canadian Post-MD Education Registry (CAPER). Building on AFMC's long history of statistical reporting and custom data services, Mr. Fortin develops policy-relevant analytical studies as well as new information products to enhance service for AFMC members, stakeholders and data users. Mr. Fortin has an interdisciplinary background in biotechnology, genomic research, sociology and science studies. He obtained a Master's degree in medical sociology at McGill University and is well versed in contemporary issues related to health, illness and medical systems. He is fully bilingual.



Leslie Forward

Database Manager/Research Assistant (CAPER)

Mr. Forward has been employed at AFMC since 1992. His responsibilities include data collection, implementation and programming for the Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) database. He prepares data tables, charts and graphs for the various CAPER publications as well as for studies, surveys and individual data requests. He also assists with the implementation of the National IMG Database project. Mr. Forward has worked with the Newfoundland Rural Development Council helping to compile a project database. Mr. Forward attended Memorial University of Newfoundland earning a B.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Mathematics.



Liane Kealey

Research Associate (ORIS)

Ms. Kealey is a long-time AFMC employee responsible for the collection, verification and publication of statistical data relating to undergraduate medical education in Canada for the Office of Research and Information (ORIS) at AFMC. This includes data related to applicants, undergraduate enrolment and graduation of MD students. Ms. Kealey has worked for over two decades in the collection of data related to medical education in Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.



Dale Yeatman

Research Assistant (ORIS)

Ms. Yeatman joined AFMC in 1979 and is Research Assistant in the Office of Research and Information Services at AFMC. Her responsibilities include managing the publication and distribution of three annual surveys - Admission Requirements, Annual Faculty of Medicine Survey and Revenues for Biomedical and Health Care Research. She is responsible for reviewing the survey responses provided by the 17 faculties of medicine. She is also involved in the distribution of the Canadian Medical School Financial Questionnaire. Ms. Yeatman's previous employment experience was in private industry and federal government.
