AFMC met with policy advisors Phil Harwood and Alain Brandon from the office of Human Resources and Skills Development Minister Diane Finley to discuss Health Human Resource issues such as internationally-trained health workers, International Medical Graduates and VISA trainees as well as research careers.

AFMC met with the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, to discuss several issues including the federal role in HHR planning, stimulating and promoting innovation in medical education, funding for health and biomedical l research, and issues related to foreign-trained physicians. AFMC also provided the Minister with updates pertaining to the Health Canada funded Future of Medical Education project.

AFMC, along with six other national organizations, met with Paul Wilson, Ph.D., Director of Policy in the Office of the Prime Minister as well as Colin Carrie, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and James Cowan, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, to discuss practical measures that could advance the Government’s S&T Strategy.
