How does the keyword search work?

The keyword search uses word criteria entered to search through all of the project listings within our database. Keyword searches are performed on the project description only. Project descriptions containing the keywords you have entered will be displayed.

The keyword search looks for any matching words which have been entered, meaning that the more words that are entered, the more results will be displayed. Projects will only be excluded if none of the keywords are present.

Only the keywords that are to be search for should be entered into the search system. For instance, if the user enters "Health Care" (minus the brackets) all records which contain the words "Health" or "Care" will be displayed. If the user enters "Health and Care" then all records with the terms "Health" or "and" or "Care" will be displayed. Functionality for search keywords such as OR, NOT or AND is not present in the system.

To begin a keyword search, follow the steps below:

  1. In the keyword search box, type in the word(s) you wish to search for separated by a space.
  2. Click on the button “Submit Search String” to process the search and locate the records matching the search criteria.
To refine your search further, click the button titled "Start a New Search" or the button titled "Previous Page" to enter additional keywords.

What is the structure of the non-keyword search?

The non-keyword search follows a step-by-step structure which will guide the user through their search to locate records based on criteria selected.

At any point during the search the user may select “Display All Projects”. This option will skip all further steps of the search process and display all records matching the search criteria that may have been entered up to that point. If no search criteria were entered, all projects within the database will be displayed.

Step 1
The first section of the search will be displayed for the user allowing them to select one of the below options and be forwarded to the respective steps:

  1. University – Forwarded to step 2
  2. Value Addressed – Forwarded to step 2
  3. Accountability Activity – Forwarded to step 2
  4. Theme – Forwarded to step 3
  5. Project Phase – Forwarded to step 2
  6. Project Initiator – Forwarded to step 2

Step 2
This step will provide selection information for all pre-theme search criteria. Depending on your selection from step 1, you will be provided with a list of all available search criteria under the respective option (i.e. if “University” was selected from step 1, the user will now see a list of all available universities). Once a selection at step 2 is made, users will be forwarded to the theme refinement search options at step 3.

Step 3
This stage will guide the user through a dynamically derived listing of available project themes. Users will be able to select different theme levels to refine their searches as the system guides theme through available options. Once step 3 has been completed, users will be forwarded to step 4.

Step 4
If a specific university was not selected at this point, the user will be presented with an option allowing them to input a specific university to further refine their search criteria. This step is optional and may be skipped. Users will be forwarded to step 5 following their selection.

Step 5
Following all user search refinement, the system will display a listing of all projects matching their search criteria, if any. Users will be able to select any project from the list to display in depth details about the project.

Are these search options not what you're looking for?

If you have not found what you are looking for during the pre-set search steps, there are several methods you may use to locate specific projects:

  1. The keyword search functions are set up to allow quick access to projects based on specific words entered by the user. If you are searching for information about a specific topic, our keyword search may help you find what you are looking for. Click here to view our keyword search option.
  2. If you are looking for a project provided by a specific university, you may select “University” as your first search criteria, select a specific university when presented with the list, and select the option “Display All Projects” to display all projects from the selected university.
  3. If you are not sure what you are specifically looking for, you may select “Display All Projects” instead of searching for specific information in order to display all projects within the database. Our display system will show you a synopsis of all projects, allowing you to quickly browse through the system.
  4. Still haven’t found what you are looking for? Contact our support staff for specific information at rperreault@afmc.ca.

Why am I seeing these project listings only?

The project listings displayed in this portion of the search are those projects which meet the criteria you have chosen during your search. If these projects do not display what you are looking for, click here to view the help section "Are these search options not what you're looking for?".

How do I display the results of a project?

To display the results of a project, click on the title of the project you wish to display to load the project information.
