Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER)

The Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) is an active data-gathering and research arm of AFMC with an interest in the post-M.D. clinical education of physicians in Canada. Established in 1986 through the co-operation of national medical organizations, CAPER brings data to a broad range of physician resource planning dialogues such as:

  • Distributed Medical Education

  • International Medical Graduates

  • Visa Trainees

  • Generalism / Specialism

  • Length of and Re-entry to Training

  • Physician Surplus/Shortage

  • Physician Workforce Demographics

  • Physician Retention and Migration

CAPER is funded by Health Canada, Provincial Ministries of Health and professional medical organizations.

The CAPER Annual Census of Post-M.D. Trainees is a data manual which has been published since 1988 and contains detailed data tables and summary information on all trainees registered for each training year, summary data tables for trainees over the last 5 years and “Quick Facts” graphs that give important trends over the last 10 years.
