AFMC Biomedical Research Revenue Study

The Biomedical and Health Care Revenues Survey is an annual survey that collects detailed information on investments in biomedical and health care research at the Canadian faculties of medicine that conduct research. It collects information such as the source categories (e.g. Federal/Provincial Government, National/Provincial Non-for-Profit organizations etc.), funding sources, amount, and fields of research. Biomedical research revenues data has been collected since 1977; however, the survey was conducted in paper format only until 2004, and currently the AFMC Research Revenues database includes years from 2010 onwards. The data are collected from each faculty of medicine in the fall of each year. The survey was revised for the 1980/81 CMES publication to improve reporting on sources of funds and disciplines, and again in 2012/13 to standardize disciplines and relaunched in 2019 to standardize the accounting methods and add affiliate funding.
