and facilitate initiatives within the medical education landscape that promote equity, diversity and inclusion across medical schools and health care systems in class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As the voice of academic medicine in Canada, we, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, stand against racial discrimination as well as other forms of discrimination. The AFMC is committed to working with health partners to ensure that our environments are diverse, inclusive, culturally safe and foster equity. We will implement institutional change and lead in addressing systemic racism through education and curricular innovation, research and advocacy for equity, diversity and inclusiveness.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Current Activities:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><em>AFMC Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) and Anti-Racism\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>This Committee facilitates national collaboration among Canadian medical schools and provides support and advice to the AFMC Board through the AFMC Standing Committee on Social Accountability on strategic and operational matters related to academic medicine and specifically EDI and Anti-Racism.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><em>Anti-Racism Praxis Workshops<\/em>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The AFMC Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism has developed an anti-racism praxis workshop for faculty leadership to disrupt racism in learning and healthcare environments. An inaugural version of this workshop was delivered to the AFMC Board in January 2023 which received a very positive response and resulted in Board approval for additional workshops to be delivered annually, to continue learning among medical education leaders.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><em>AFMC Board Endorsement to Discontinue the MCAT<\/em>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Following extensive consultation by the AFMC Standing Committee on Social Accountability, the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) was identified as a significant barrier to admission to medical school, particularly for racialized applicants and applicants of low socioeconomic status and was deemed indefensible against social accountability mandates.
