Dear Learners,

We have heard from many of you with concerns regarding the integrity of the national resident match process. We understand these are very stressful times for all learners, as years of hard work and investment culminate in the residency match.

The AFMC wants to assure you that we remain confident in the integrity of the residency match process. Each School of Medicine across Canada has, over time, developed robust policies and procedures to ensure an equitable and unbiased match process for all applicants. Program directors have all been reminded of existing processes to maintain the integrity of the match.

We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with the strategies that are in place at a national level and with those within your particular school(s) of interest. We also encourage learners to seek support as needed.

Let us be clear: the AFMC will continue to monitor the integrity of the match and any attempt to intimidate or harass students will not be tolerated and will be subject to an inquiry and action by the medical school involved.

Thank you for your leadership and for having shared your concern.

With respect,

Constance LeBlanc, MD, MAEd, MBA Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional
President and CEO, AFMC
