Mentorship is the theme of the opening plenary session of the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM). The dedication of mentors in providing support, guidance and inspiration is key to the success of all in academic medicine and should be recognized.
Join us for a conversation on mentorship with Dr. Marcia Anderson, Vice-Dean, Indigenous Health, Social Justice and Anti-Racism and the Executive Director of Indigenous Academic Affairs in the Ongomiizwin Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Kevin Eva, Associate Director and Senior Scientist in the Centre for Health Education Scholarship, and Professor and Director of Educational Research and Scholarship in the Department of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Quarraisha Abdool Karim, Professor in Clinical Epidemiology, Columbia University; Pro Vice-Chancellor for African Health and Associate Scientific Director, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Dr. Jesse Kancir, Regional Medical Officer of Health at Nova Scotia Health Authority and past president of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students. At this session, participants will hear ideas not only about how best to make mentorship work but also about how to make mentorship matter to Faculties and become an important aspect of promotion and tenure at our universities.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

- Maximize mentorship and sponsorship opportunities.
- Consider how to better value mentorship in promotion processes.
