Helping medical students find the right fit for their future

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – November 26, 2020 Today, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) launched CANPREPP, a one-stop-shop solution where any applicant to a Canadian residency program can discover and experience any residency program across Canada. This new tool is funded by the CMA Foundation, and is a result of collaboration between AFMC and the Canadian Faculties of Medicine, the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS), the Canadian Medical Association, the CMA Foundation and Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students are no longer able to visit medical residency programs. CANPREPP allows students to virtually connect with the people in medical residency programs across Canada and the communities they support.

CANPREPP equals the playing field for students and programs – allowing every student access to every program, and every program to promote themselves to every student.

The AFMC is grateful for the support of our partners. By working together and being innovative, we now have a tool that enables students to make informed decisions about their future”.  Dr. Geneviève Moineau, President and CEO of AFMC

“Selecting a residency program is a crucial milestone for medical learners that’s been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The CMA Foundation is pleased to contribute to the development of CANPREPP to provide a solution for medical learners to have an equal opportunity to access residency programs across Canada.” Allison Seymour, CMA Foundation president

"The opportunity to explore residency programs is crucial to making informed decisions about our futures as medical students. CANPREPP will help fill that gap during a time when it is most needed. The CFMS is thankful for our collaborators and their support to promote equity in the residency match." Henry Li, President of CFMS

“The FMEQ is very pleased to present this wonderful collaboration, and we are very thankful to everyone who has been working on this. We know that choosing a specialty and a university is never an easy decision. CANPREPP will enable every student to learn and discover programs with the hope that they will find their ideal match”.

Catherine Lajoie, President of FMEQ
