Q&A with new AFMC CEO
September 19, 2023
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Constance LeBlanc as the new President and CEO of the AFMC with the mandate to continue AFMC's mission of advancing medical education, research and social accountability in Canada.

AFMC has exciting plans for our inaugural International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM). This leading international gathering is dedicated to academic medicine. ICAM will be a congress that is unparalleled in scope and reputation in Canada, providing unique opportunities for networking and sharing of scholarly work in medical education and health research.

ICAM was designed to enhance professional development for all those involved in academic medicine. We will offer a diverse program with more than 300 presentations (workshops, orals and poster presentations) on the most pressing issues in academic medicine, as well as seven exciting plenary sessions. ICAM’s program consists of three days dedicated to health research, three days dedicated to medical education and one day focused on international themes, including One Health, Health Workforce planning and Planetary Health.

ICAM will have a special focus on learners. Medical students, residents, graduate students and post-doctoral scholars will have the opportunity to present their work, network with peers and connect with mentors. We are pleased to offer a new Career Fair designed to allow learners to gain exposure to both residency programs across Canadian medical schools and potential employers. ICAM 2023 will also be the host location for the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) Spring General Meeting.

ICAM will provide numerous networking opportunities with Canadian colleagues as well as with international health leaders. AFMC has developed an International Dean Leadership Development program to support professional development of deans of medicine and health sciences around the world that will culminate with a face-to-face meeting at ICAM.

We are proud to have Patients Included™ Status for ICAM. Among other things, patients or caregivers actively participate in the design and planning of the event and are supported to participate in the conference directly through our scholarship program. The scholarship will contribute to travel costs, meals and cover on-site registration. We are also happy to have patient partners as moderators on our plenaries.

ICAM will take place in Québec City between April 13-18, 2023, at the Québec City Convention Centre. The core programming will take place over five days from Thursday to Tuesday allowing for business meetings before and after the congress.
