The National Consortium for Indigenous Medical Education (NCIME) is a partnership between the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Medical Council of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The NCIME provides leadership in areas of shared priority to implement Indigenous-led projects and workstreams that transform Indigenous medical education and contribute to the delivery of culturally safe health care.

The Culture of Academic Medicine Initiative encourages the institutional adoption of good practices that foster respectful and inclusive environments for the wellbeing of all. AFMC recently announced that it had endorsed the Okanagan Charter: An international Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges. To advance the institutional strategy, the AFMC has created an Okanagan Charter Collaborative. This group, which has representation from all seventeen faculties of medicine as well as from the Canadian Federation of Medical Students, Black Physicians of Canada, the Indigenous Physician Association of Canada, the Canadian Association of Physicians with Disabilities as well as LGBTQ2S+ and patient representatives, will work together to develop resources to enable implementation of the Okanagan Charter.

This initiative also seeks to empower individuals in academic medicine to collectively strive towards embedding respect, safe spaces, empathy, compassion, self-care, and kindness into the fabric of our communities. The Culture of Academic Medicine Initiative is committed to recognizing and celebrating the small but mighty interactions that have had an impact on others.

AFMC is asking those who learn, train and work in academic medicine to complete this survey.

This work is possible thanks to a grant from the Physician Wellness+Initiative, an initiative by Scotiabank, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), and MD Financial Management (MD).
