Ontario is home to seven of Canada’s 18 medical schools and accounts for 37% of residency positions in the country.

The Ontario government recently announced changes to the current resident match process in that province. New for this year, only Canadian medical graduates (CMGs) and international medical graduates (IMGs) who completed two years of high school in Ontario will be eligible for the first round of the resident match into Ontario Faculties of Medicine.

This was a government decision and was not an anticipated change.

AFMC continues to monitor the situation.
