The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) congratulates Saleem Razack on the beginning of his term as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University, effective September 1, 2026.

A pediatric intensivist, educator, and medical education researcher, Dr. Razack joins Dalhousie from the University of British Columbia, where he was a tenured professor and Senior Faculty Advisor for Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI). He previously spent 25 years at McGill University, where he served as the inaugural Director of the Office of Social Accountability and Community Engagement.

“I have long admired Dalhousie’s commitment to the people and communities of the Maritimes. The Faculty of Medicine has built strong relationships across the region and demonstrated how education, research and care can be strengthened through meaningful engagement with communities,” says Dr. Razack. “Dalhousie is of and for the people of the Maritimes, with global impact in education, research and clinical care.  I look forward to listening, learning and working with faculty, staff, learners and community partners as we continue that work together.”

Dr. Razack is a nationally recognized medical educator whose work has helped advance equity, anti-oppressive pedagogy and social accountability in academic medicine. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and received several honours for his contributions, including the AFMC May Cohen Equity, Diversity and Gender Award (2012) and the 2025 AFMC President’s Award for Exemplary National Leadership in Academic Medicine.

Dr. Razack succeeds David Anderson, who concluded two accomplished terms as Dean. AFMC extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Anderson for his decade of service and contributions to Dalhousie University.
