OTTAWA, ONTARIO – March 10, 2026 – The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and partners together proudly support the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM), taking place from April 16 to 19, 2026, in Ottawa.

ICAM is an annual congress of more than 1,500 delegates that brings together leaders in medical education and health research to promote innovation and scholarship in medical education and health research on an international scale. Convened by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), this congress has a special focus on all learners – medical students, residents, as well as graduate students and post-doctoral scholars – including opportunities to present, network and connect with mentors and potential employers. ICAM 2026 will focus on false health information in medicine, the case for compassion, food prescription, the management of severe acute malnutrition, and the importance of human milk.

ICAM is one of several initiatives under the Affinity Partnership, a collaboration between the Canadian Medical Association, MD Financial Management Inc., and Scotiabank, backed by a $115-million, 10-year investment to support physicians and advance health in Canada. “The CMA is proud to continue its support of ICAM, a global forum that brings together medical leaders, researchers, educators, and learners at every stage of their careers,” said Margot Burnell, President, CMA. “ICAM creates meaningful space for the exchange of ideas and best practices that help strengthen health systems and advance patient care, outcomes we are deeply committed to supporting in Canada.”

“As the voice of academic medicine, the AFMC is proud to once again bring our community together through ICAM,” said Constance Leblanc, President and CEO, AFMC. “ICAM advances the ideas, evidence, and partnerships that shape medical education and health research, and strengthen how health care is delivered across Canada. We extend our sincere thanks to the CMA, MD Financial Management and Scotiabank for their continued support in sustaining this important international forum.”
