Responding to the BMSAC’s Calls to Action

AFMC is working in partnership with The Black Medical Students’ Association of Canada (BMSAC) and the Network for the Advancement of Black Learners (N-ABL) to gather information about how Canada’s 17 Faculties of Medicine are responding to the BMSAC’s Calls to Action released in June of 2020, and to better understand the current national landscape of anti-racism initiatives and support for Black students and learners in medical education.

On behalf of the Management Board and partners of the Canadian Medical Education Journal (CMEJ)—the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC)—we are pleased to announce the appointment of Christina St-Onge as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Medical Education Journal, effective January 1, 2026.

Christina brings a wealth of experience in medical education and academic leadership. She completed her doctorate in Measurement and Assessment at Université Laval and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical Council of Canada. She is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Université de Sherbrooke. Her research bridges psychometric rigor with social science perspectives, contributing influential scholarship in assessment validity and medical education. She has a proven record of advancing education scholarship, driving innovation, and mentoring emerging scholars.

With her strong ties to the Canadian medical education community and extensive editorial experience, Christina is uniquely positioned to guide the CMEJ’s editorial direction, maintain rigorous peer-review standards, and expand the journal’s reach and impact nationally and internationally.

“I am dedicated to making CMEJ a top-choice journal for Canadian and international authors, where theory-driven research and novel emerging ideas shape educational practice and policy,” says Christina. “Through this role, I hope to champion scholarship that is both innovative and transformative, ensuring that CMEJ continues to lead with evidence, innovation, and impact.”

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Marcel D’Eon, outgoing Editor-in-Chief, for his outstanding leadership and long-standing dedication to the CMEJ. Under his stewardship, the journal achieved indexing and experienced remarkable growth, with significant increases in abstract open rates, downloads, and citations. His contributions have positioned the CMEJ as a leading voice in medical education scholarship.

Please join us in welcoming Christina St-Onge to this role as we look forward to continued growth, innovation, and impact for the CMEJ.
